iKana touch is very close to being finished now. I fully expect to submit it to Apple for review during this coming week. Here are those promised screenshots...
Update!
iKana touch is now available on the App Store!
|
|
| Kana Set Menu You choose the kana set you want to practice on this screen. |
Kana Browser Tap a kana to view its flash card or practice this set using the Writing Test or Speed Test. |
|
|
| Flash cards You can browse flash cards by swiping left or right with your finger. Buttons at the bottom let you add this kana to your practice set or hear it pronounced. Some example words are included for completeness. |
Flash cards When you tap the flash card it will flip over to reveal an iKanji style stroke animation. |
|
|
| Kana Speed Test Tap the correct answer before the timer runs out in the speed test. Any questions you get wrong are added to a special kana set you access from the Kana Sets screen for revision. |
The Kana Writing Test Trace the strokes, starting and stopping within the circles in the correct order and direction. |

I'm so excited [grin] now you can get back to work on InstantGallery! Best of luck with the iKana launch.
Looks fantastic, well done :)
I know at least 2 people who will buy it immediately - Good lord that looks awesome
Hey Rory. That looks like a pretty comprehensive app for learning Japanese on the go. Congratulations!
Thanks for the positive comments guys. I've got some really cool ideas of InstantGallery 2 too, it's not forgotten ;)
Hey Rory. I just wanted to say congratulations on the beautiful work you've been doing with iKana and iKanji. Just going from the screenshots alone, these are some of the most beautifully designed apps I've seen in a long time.
Looks great, any plans for iKanji Touch?
Thanks!
Looks really nice. I know all my kana already, so I won't be a customer for iKana, but it certainly has me excited for iKanji on the iPhone (whenever that happens)
Wonderfull app, i hope very soon ikanji touch !!
Please, please, PLEASE!! If you have extra time, could you port a version of iKanji to the iPhone/iTouch? You would make a kajillion euros. I'd buy it 10 times. It would be the best thing for the iPhone since its release. Can I donate for its rapid production? PLEASE! おねがいします!
any chance for iKanji Touch?
Yes yes iKanji touch is coming, I have previously mentioned this.
Congratulations, this app is simply awesome, you have put a lot of imagination/hard work on it and it is noted very well. :D. (Just waiting to get my own iPhone now).
woohoo, can't wait!
how I wish I can do such nice UI like you.
Nice work on iKana Touch...
Is there a testing mode that allows you to enter the Romanji (with the keyboard) for the displayed character? If not, could this be added? Another cool feature would be if it displayed a word in kana and the user had to romanize it. This way there's no chance of the user just making a lucky guess.
I may add a romanization test like the one in iKana on the Mac in a future update.
(Note: I was the previous anonymous poster.)
Awesome. A romanization test is the only thing I'm waiting for. A writing test would be cool too.
Wyen will iKanji Touch come out?
もしもし~~~
Wonderful app, looks fantastic!
Very useful... perfect!
ありがとうございます、rory先生!^^
Already bought iKana some time ago, but didn't found the time to get into it. Now that it's available for my iPod Touch, there 'll be plenty more occasions to use it. Thanks for this handy little programm... like it a lot!
Take care... Christian
