Q: What do you call your Mac?
A: In chronological order here are the Macs I've owned and their names:
- Hobbes - blueberry clamshell iBook (now my mother's)
- Aquarius - graphite G4 sawtooth (sold)
- Pismo - PowerBook G3 firewire (sold)
- Bonsai - PowerMac G4 quicksilver (sold)
- Apollo - PowerBook G4 aluminium (current)
I have some names lined up for what ever Mac I get next too;
If it's a G5 (or Intel in a G5 style case) it's going to be called Battlestar. If it's a Mac mini it will be called Naruto (or maybe Uzumaki, not decided on that yet).
I have a whole bunch of old Macs, ranging from an SE/30 to a Duo 2300 but I don't use those that regularly so their names just reflect their model numbers.

I chose to call my G5... BigMac.
About 8 months later i got myself a Powerbook G4 so to keep in a naming scheme i called it... LittleMac.
power mac g5 -- grue
powerbook g4 -- frobozz
power mac g5 -- iPutter
Well I am a PowerBook user so I went with LapDancer. The name gets passed on from machine to machine and current it is a 12" PowerBook.
I've lost track of historical names, but currently i have Kerberos - my broken smoothwall box that i'll eventually fix, Morpheus - my (free) mac mini, Poseidon - my Blue & White G4, Hades - my PC, and... Apollo (!) - my iBook....
mac mini -- pebble
linux box -- rubble
windows box -- monolith (it's a huge case)
openbsd box -- slab (in the garage, soon to be donated)
My main Linux laptop is (and probably always will be) 'okcomputer'
PowerMac g4 - Mac Attack
PowerMac g5 - Astro Mac
iBook G4 - Go Mac
iBook G3 (wife's) - Little Miss Mac
2G iPod - Globe Trotter
3G iPod - Astro Orbiter
PC - Window Pain!!
You aren't a true Mac user if your computer's name is "Macintosh HD".
Great to see I'm not alone in naming my computers :)
My G4/400 native 10Gb HD was named "Herbie Hancock", now I've added a bigger one and it's "Herbie Hancock 115Go" (with a X-branded HD icon) and "Herbie Hancock 10Go" (with a 9-branded HD icon)
Well I just got my first Mac this past week. Its name is Macanudo (which in English, would translate loosely as groovy)
As for the PCs, I've lost track of the old ones. Current names are Wasabi (WinXP), Sushi (the same machine booted under Linux), Burger (a Gentoo development machine) and Slunj (FreeBSD 4.something). Oh yes! and Ulysses, my dell laptop
I'm big on Mystery Science Theatre 3000, so my naming scheme follows some of my favorite shows.
My new Mac Mini is "Moon Zero Two"
My Sony Ericsson T610 bluetooth phone is "Eegah"
My iPod is "Beatnik"
My windows work PC is "Lemon Zester of Destruction"
My old, defunct Linux desktop is "Laserblast"
I've had a few other retired machines too, but their names have faded in my memory.
I love reading what other people name their computers, especially if they have schemes. I believe there's even an RFC about it...
My G4 tower, MDD was named Cyclops, after the big "eye" speaker.
My G5 is named Picard. Consequently, all the HDs have ST names, i.e., Sutherland, Phoenix, Enterprise, Yamato, etc.
My PowerBook is named Salacia. It was the name of a ferry I once took in Boston.
Between my wife and myself:
PMG5 - Kurita-kun
iMac - Namegon
iBook G4 - Venus
PBG4 12" - Psyga
PBG4 15" - Shirogane
PMG4 - Bol'janon (retired)
...etc etc going back to...
PB180c - Paabu-chan in 1993 (long deceased)
Macs must have names, or they die from lack of love. Windows machines can have names, but it doesn't seem to really matter...kind of like naming your toaster.
I am getting a new Quad G5 at work next week. It's name has already been picked out...
Quadra.
