About ThinkMacMakers of beautiful handcrafted software |
I founded ThinkMac because I was determined to develop software for the platform that I love - the Macintosh. The Mac practically breeds creativity in its users and has the most exciting software development scene of any platform, something I wanted to be a part of and could feel proud contributing to.
ThinkMac, as the name suggests is about just that — thinking in the Mac way. That means putting user experience on the highest pedestal whilst delivering well engineered and robust products. I consider building good Mac software an art form and I hope that is reflected in the quality and polish of my applications.
Currently based in the pleasant sea-side town of Aberystwyth in Wales, ThinkMac is run as a sole proprietorship, although in future I hope to grow the company and take on some additional employees. You could call ThinkMac a little company with big dreams. Thanks to the power of the Cocoa frameworks and Apple's fantastic development tools it's possible for me to create some amazing apps which are straightforward to maintain and support.
My first Cocoa application was the now retired NewsMac 3, the first non-Java edition of my pioneering RSS reader that predated even stalwarts like NetNewsWire (it was released on the 27th of February 2002).
More recently ThinkMac has been focusing on educational software for learning Japanese on your Mac, namely iKana and iKanji. Another key product is InstantGallery which will also see significant updates in the near future.
I'm also now writing applications for the iPhone and iPad. In 2008 I brought iKana touch to the iPhone, followed a year later by iKanji touch. Now in 2010 I'm hard at work on bringing these and new products to the iPad. I feel these new devices are a natural extension of the Mac and carry the same fundamental philosophies of excellence in design, usability and quality.
